Lupita in Newsworthy by ricky carrasco

Location: Cd.Juarez, I figure that people like this are more linked to our culture and destiny than, say, Ruidoso or Carlsbad

This is Lupita. She just graduated from the National Pedagogy University in Juarez and is a fully licensed 'licensiada' teacher (both terms carry a heavy amount of respect). She is surrounded by 15 of the 18 girls she takes care of through the 'Casa Hogar' girls orphanage that she administrates in Juarez. Two years ago, she took over the orphanage, short-handed and under-funded. The woman she replaced was fired for embezzling and stealing from the orphanage. She kept the girls living in squalor with little supervision or direction (without telling the details, let's just say there's a warm place in hell for her). The girls themselves were either orphaned or taken by the Mexican CPS for abuse. The greater majority of the girls, between 5 and 16 years old , were sexually/ physically/ mentally abused, if not outright prostituted, by their parents for years. When I first visited the orphanage 2 years ago, a week after she took over, the girls were abusing each other to an unimaginable level. They were feral with emotional baggage that I still cannot comprehend. Lupita has changed all that with order, discipline, and as you can see, love. Like teachers everywhere, she gets paid not nearly enough. She has worked miracles with these girls, as you can see with their smiles and new-found pride (the little girl in the dress in front of her and the boy are her own).

Lupita, an angel on earth! It appears she has made a huge difference by the smiles on the children's faces. Thank You for this photo and great explanatory caption.

Thank you for that, I'm forwarding the pic to her rite now. I also know its not strictly EP, but I figured that there's enough bad news coming out of Juarez. I thought I'd let y'all know that there are ordinary people doing extraordinary things in our embattled sister city.

Thank you for sharing this story of hope! I want to share with yo this quote from Mother Theresa... (sorry but it is in spanish) “A veces sentimos que lo que hacemos es tan solo una gota en el mar, pero el mar sería menos si le faltara una gota.” Madre Teresa de Calcuta (1910-1997) Misionera yugoslava nacionalizada india.

It's so heartwarming to hear that this young lady is making a difference in the lives of these girls. Thank you for sharing this picture and her story. Our prayers are with her so God will keep her and the orphanage safe from all the violence going on over there.
